From the Reformation to the Wars of Succession

16th and 17th century

Unique art objects and fascinating objects for everyday use illustrate the tumultuous period between the Middle Ages and the modern era.

The sculpture shows the three Graces holding each other. All three of them are nude. The fronts of their bodies bend inwards into the circle formed by their embrace. From the outside you can only see their backs.

The exhibits depict the art and culture of the Upper Rhine region and southwestern Germany in a period that was characterized by emerging cultural development as well as the misery of war. Focusing on themes such as humanism, science, craft and guilds, culture at court and bourgeois life as well as religion and war, the exhibition creates a complex image of this eventful period.
