This collection of objects from antiquity is one of the most significant in Germany. It offers a diversified overview of ancient cultures in Mediterranean countries dating from circa 3000 BCE, from Mesopotamia to Egypt, Greece, Etruria and Rome to the Byzantine Empire.
The Classical Antiquity I exhibition combines archaeological finds from different eras of the ancient world. It provides an overview of the ancient cultures of the Orient, Egypt and Greece. The exhibition ranges from the early Cycladic Culture of the 3rd millennium BCE to ancient Egypt, the cultures of the Middle East, Cretan-Minoic, Mycenic, Cyprian art and culture, and Archaic and Classical Greece. The collections of Cycladic idols, Oriental bronzes, Phoenician ivory and Egyptian sculptures are world class.
