Are the Black Forest gateau, the traditional Bollenhut hat and sun-kissed wine truly typical for Baden? How long has the contiguous region of Baden actually existed? Can the effects of the Biedermeier-Zeitgeist still be felt today? These and other questions are answered by the exhibition. The museum collection illustrates the history of Baden in the 19th century, which also reflects the historical development in Europe. The visitors receive information on how Baden’s form of government changed from a margraviate to a grand duchy by order of Napoleon, and on the consolidation of Baden, the Vormärz (Pre-March) Era, the German Democratic Revolution of 1848/49 and its failure.
Eine Handwerkerstube, ein Biedermeiersalon und die original erhaltene Einrichtung eines Kolonialwarenladens geben einen räumlichen Eindruck.
