From the Minnesong to the Pop Academy. Music Culture in Baden-Württemberg

Schloss Karlsruhe
Music history has been made for centuries in Baden-Württemberg – this is impressively demonstrated in the exhibition “From the Minnesong to the Pop Academy” in Schloss Karlsruhe. Valuable pieces, like a 35,000-year-old bone flute from the Swabian Alb or the Merovingian lyre from the 6th Century A.D., found in Trossingen in 2001 can be heard thanks to numerous listening posts.
Six departments document the history of music and its influence on all areas of life. Witness is given of a wide variety of artists active in what is now Baden-Württemberg: from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy to the Flippers and on to Xavier Naidoo. In cooperation with the Pop Academy in Mannheim, visitors can make an appointment to set up a session in their own sound studio.
Really extraordinary is the accompanying programme with more than 280 events throughout the State. Check the daily program under: www.musikkultur-bw.de. In addition, open-air concerts will be held from 17.7. to 8.8. in front of Schloss Karlsruhe. Admission is free.
