Questions most frequently asked by our visitors and the answers

Individual visitors and groups

May I take my coat and bag to the exhibits?
Please understand that for security reasons all coats, jackets, bags, and rucksacks of any size must be checked in to the cloakroom or placed in the lockers. Lockers are located at the cloakroom and in the basement in front of the toilets. If required, you will receive a carrier bag at the cloakroom for the transport of valuables or medicines.

Is the museum accessible?
Yes. Wheelchair access is guaranteed to all exhibits (except the tower). There are disabled toilets on the ground floor. There are also two wheelchairs available for hire. Please contact the staff in the foyer! You can find further information about accessibility here.

Are there seats in the exhibits?
Yes, light, folding visitor chairs are available on all floors.

Is there a place to change nappies?
Yes. In the collection and special exhibits, there are baby-changing facilities  with free nappies and wet wipes.

Are pets allowed to be brought into the museum?
Pets are not allowed in the exhibition rooms. The only exception to this rule is guide dogs.

How long is the guided tour?
Guided tours of our art and cultural-historical collections and special exhibits usually last one hour. See our calendar for current dates and topics.

Is it possible to see historical palace rooms?
The whole building is furnished as a cultural-historical museum. There are therefore no original historical rooms. With the virtual reality experience “Audienz im Schloss”, you can virtually explore the historical marble hall of the Karlsruhe Palace for the first time.

Can I climb the palace tower in the evening?
It is only possible to climb the tower during opening hours. It is possible to climb the palace tower up to  one hour before closing.

Do I have to register my group even if I want to give the tour myself?
Self-guided tours are possible in our collection exhibitions, but not in our special exhibitions. In any case, please register your group in advance with our visitor service: service@landesmuseum.de.

Can agencies give their travel groups a voucher for booked groups?
This is not a problem. Please indicate this when booking and present it at the cash desk.

Can I order tickets and vouchers in advance?
Yes, quite simply via the ticket shop.

Rentals/appraisal of objects

Is it possible to rent rooms for private celebrations?
Yes, our garden hall and the adjoining tower room can be reserved.

Can I bring my own antiquities and have them appraised or possibly offer them for sale to the museum?
Appraisals may not be made for legal reasons. For a possible consultation, we ask for a written message with photo. Regular museum "office hours" are held during which objects can be brought in for consultation. Dates can be found in our calendar.
